As I look at the stats for this blog – very few actually come here and almost none post. So, I am thinking of stopping the posting here, and just encouraging more at facebook. What do you guys think?

I have a question about Exodus 22:2-3. I really don’t understand verse 3 at all, and I asked my dad but he also did’nt know what it meant. I’m just curious because it seems really confusing, thanks a bunch!!!

Hello Macy!
Good question…let me see if I can help
It seems as if God is giving several scenarios for dealign with a thief.
The first premise is that a thief had to make full restitution for what he had stolen, the amount depending on the nature of the theft.
Second if a thief was slain while breaking in, the home owner was not accountable, he was not guilty and would not be charged with murder.
If the sun has risen, in other words – we are not talking about the moment of the break in. If the owner of the house hunts down the thief, after the break in, not a the moment it took place, but after – and kills him – that is another story. It is no longer at the fearful and scary moment of the break in. Now it is vengeance and wrong.
If the thief survives, with the idea that the owner of the house injured him, or even tried to kill him and missed…the thief is still responsible for his crime.
That seems to be the gist of it. Does that make sense?
